| The word piobaireachd itself, is Gaelic
for piping, any piping, not just the ceol mor. What is called in Gaelic
ceol mor is just derived from the ancient form of music. The variations
of pibroch are melodic variations and rhythmic variations. These tunes
were often used as gathering tunes – simple repetitive phrases that
would rally men who were scattered on the battlefield. Some examples of
pibroch are:
1. War or Peace
2. The MacGregor’s Gathering
3. Pibroch of Donald Dhu, a MacDonald tune commonly used by Camerons
4. The End of the Little Bridge, a gathering tune of the Camerons and
the Sutherlands,
and a variant of the Clanranald Gathering.
5. Clan Chattan’s Gathering
