Bluebonnets sprung from the ground.
Holly sat down in the middle of them. She wasn’t afraid of the bees that
buzzed from flower to flower. Butterflies fluttered around Holly’s head.
Other flowers grew among the bluebonnets. Holly saw bright red Indian
Paintbrush, fluffy balls of pink clover, white daisies with bright yellow
centers, and lemony buttercups.
When the wind blew, the flowers
danced, Holly’s golden hair blew in her face, and she could smell the
fragrance of the flowers when she took a deep breath. Holly lay on her
back and looked at the blue sky. Puffy white clouds floated across. She
thought one of them looked like a lamb. Another looked like a penguin.
The sun was shining high in the sky.
It was bright and felt warm on her face. Holly could hear a cricket
chirping. It was hiding under a rock. She listened to the bluebirds
singing a sweet melody as they made their nests. Her big brother and
sister ran through the bluebonnets and sat down next to Holly. She giggled
when her brother picked a daisy and put it in his hair. Holly picked two
daisies and gave one to her sister. They both put them in their hair. All
of them giggled. Holly’s mom said it was time to go home. Holly picked a
buttercup and gave it to her mom and she gave Holly back a big hug. |
