The Sand Dunes

Brandi filled her bucket up with sand and then dumped it out. She was surprised to find several stones with fossils in them. She collected fossils and had a box of them at home. Picking them up, she put the stones in her pocket and stood, looking for her friends.

They often went to the sand dunes for picnics. Sometimes they ran up to the top and rolled down to the bottom. Other times they dug with their shovels and made huge sandcastles.

Several quails came out from behind a scrub bush. They were in a line and their heads bobbed up and down. After they passed by, she ran down the dune, kicking sand and laughing. All of her friends stood at the bottom, waving at her.

They decided to play a game of hide and seek. Everyone ran to hide, leaving Brandi to find them. She counted to ten and then began her search. "I should go back to the top of the dune. I can see everything from up there." She climbed to the top and looked around in a circle. She saw three of her friends right away and called their names. One other friend stayed hidden.

Brandi ran down the other side of the sand dune and went into some caves. While she was looking around, she found some more fossils. "Oh good!" She put them in her pocket with the others.

She heard a giggle and turned around. There stood her other friend. They raced each other around the base of the dunes and Brandi won. Now it was her turn to hide!

When their game ended, they ate sandwiches. Brandi wasn't happy because sand found its way inside hers. She ate it anyway.

That night, after she went home, she put all of her fossils in the box with the others. "That was fun! I hope we do that again soon."
