Pictures from Doug and Pat Ross on their trip to Scotland 2007
Dunnet Head, Canisby Church, John O'Groats

The tour group had breakfast at the Royal Hotel in Thurso, where we'll be staying again at the end of our trip to the Orkneys. After breakfast, we headed out for an excursion to the Orkney Islands. Our first stop was the Dunnet Head Lighthouse.

The Queen Mother attended this church when she visited Canisbay. Prince Charles presented a plaque in remembrance of his grandmother to the church, where a private pew is still reserved. (A nearby ruins with flagstones is also included.)

We arrived at the John O'Groats harbour ahead of schedule, and the crossing of the Pentland Firth took slightly longer than the anticipated 45 minutes due to the weather.
