Williewayin' Auncients' Trauchles

Williewayin' Auncients' Trauchles ... Bewailing Old People's Troubles

[Lyrics composed by DDJ on 15th June, 2005, and best sung to 'Fowler's Hot Strut' (1928)]

Dool D. D. Jake wis hard tae spik,
'Boot growin' auld an' a' sich lik ...
"Aye, muckle tribbles fess loats o' froons
Tae mudgeons o' auncient quines an' loons."

"An' gin i' growin' up there's wale,
Jist naithin' stoaps beens frae gettin' frail.
Waik sidelins stachers an' a pumpy gut
Mak waukin' trauchle, rale affa scunner, an' a' aetin' a sturt."

"Sae git a stick an' tak yer pills.
Wauk slawer tae win-oot a thon spills.
Aet loats o' veg slung'd doon wi' bree,
Syne fin life's hicht waavs smeether, ye'll 'gree."

"Fan ye fa' doon ye stert wonnerin' och,"
'Fit anse's tae be din fan doon i' sich haugh?'
"Fan i' sweyin' cher ye git kinna ferr
As gied showdin-boats, syne fest an' wil, i' yer youth-heid shair."

*******************************************************************************

Sad D. D. Jake was heard to say,
'Bout growing older day by day,
"Yes, many troubles bring lots of frowns
To faces of ancients of their ups and downs."

"And if in growing-up there is a choice,
Just nothing stops frail bones' creaking voice.
All sideways staggers and a windy gut
Make walking awkward, eating hurt."

"When you fall down you start wondering, help,"
'What else's to be done when down like a whelp?'
"When in rocking-chair you get sim'lar fear
As from roller-coasters of an earlier year."

"So get a stick and take your pills.
Walk slower to escape all those spills.
Eat lots of veg washed down with tea,
Then find life's rough waves smoother, you'll agree."

'Bout growing older day by day,

To faces of ancients of ups and downs."

"And if in growing-up there is a choice,

...... "Yes, get a stick .... Take all these pills.
Walk lots slower and ..Escape all those spills.
Eat much more veg .... Wash all down with tea,
Find rollers smoother .... Applies too, to me!"
