Poems of Mac McAnear
March Hare

The March hare acts like a bear
On New Yearís Eve
Snug in his den, warmth within
Hates to leave.

But hungerís there for the March hare
Nothing to fill him up
Heís in a mood to search for food
Looks where he can sup!

There by the fence where heíll go hence
To masticate
A tuft of grass that heíll amass
Then back to his mate!

Others on the prowl would like to howl
Find something good
The sly little fox gets you in a box
Thatís understood!

Or the bobcatís hiss whoíll rarely miss
When jumping for prey
All you need is lots of speed
And luck for another day!
