Poems from Kenneth J Shaw
The Deid Salmon

Many a battle's been fought in this Glen,
Some over not all that much,
But here in Balquhidder many centuries ago,
You grasped at all you could touch,

A Buchanan of Leny had entered the scene,
Intruders were not welcome here,
And he'd hit a local wi a 'deid salmon',
A mad man that showed just no fear,

The MacGregors gathered quickly,
They met at the Auld Drovers Inn,
Outsiders would have to be dealt with,
To insult them was classed as a sin,

They made their way down to Leny,
Not all that far down a track,
And they sat and waited till night fall,
Till they entered and made their attack,

The Buchanans were murdered one by one,
They'd insult no one again,
This was the life of MacGregors,
And how things worked way back then.
