Monymusk Cross Slab

Friends of Grampian Stones

Monymusk cross slab in vestibule of St Mary's 12C chapel, Monymusk, Aberdeenshire.

Monymusk cross slab. Unusual in that its surface is inscribed like a Class I stone, but it is sparsely decorated like a Class II relief slab. It may have been one of the early transitional works of art which formed a bridge between pagan belief and Christian religion . photo©MCNagahiro
