Donna's Poems
Crack the Whip

The line of children turns so slowly then,
Reminds us of kids playing crack the whip when,
The beginning of the circle was slow,
Until at the end someone had to go.
The whip was a big circle that was spun,
Around, around back and forth we run,
Until the momentum of it made it hard to hold
To the person ahead of us in the fold.
Jack, Barb, Jenny, Sam and Joe,
Doesn't matter who or what they know
Crack the whip and they had to go.
We didn't have time to blame,
Someone for the physical law just the same,
While we tumbled and we fell,
No finger pointed or song to tell,
It was all just the laws of life and living,
Pulling us along making that whip giving,
The consequences of the thing,
While we ran with the ring.
I'm saddened by the faces on that screen
After Katrina was so mean
Saddened by the leaders who must step forward
View in plain sight and go toward
The grief, the wasted masses
Visited on all classes.
My artist eye see the suffering on all their faces,
And I ask they be given strength from Higher Graces.
Pray for a day when there will be a reign and belief
Of our King, that Great Prince of Peace,
When the desert will bloom as the rose,
Rivers will clap their hands and dispose,
So those who suffer now today
Will only forget and on the hole of the asp play.
