Donna's Poems
What Was Civil About It?

The old Jones lady told her grandson
All about how the others won.
The grandson told his son
It wasn't much fun.
The grandson told his own,
And he told me on the phone.
All about how the Yankie's pillaged
Their chickens, quilts, hogs, even the silage.
They hung Granny Jones until she passed out
With a rope that was surely stout.

“They hung her 'til she passed out,
With that rope,  oh so stout,
Said she, “ But I never told them of the gold
I sewed between my petticoat's fold.”
