Donna's Poems
A Friend's Lament
by Donna Flood

David loved Jonathan, his friend.
Our Master wanted his, like chicks to a hen.

From this example for us the mortal,
Learn before we cross through that portal.

We treat our friends like fine crystal.
Put them on a pedestal.

Give all we have of energy and life.
Through theirs,  or our moments of strife.

We do not hold them to our culture,
We ask not agreement as to a future.

Forgiving not the perfect number seven,
Yet more perfect, seventy times seven.

Should our hearts weigh heavy for a slight,
Days will come and go,  bringing greater right.

Put the sadness away let it rest in peace,
Then call them all together, instead enjoy a feast.
