We who bask in the sun of the common
place
Go to bed with a smile on our face.
Our prayers for those who have been kind
In quiet ways as they have a mind
And even for some who have not,
Because their manners forgot
Under the stress of their own lot.
These words rest so well on our heart
While we think through the part
Of one or another event through the day
That gave a wonderful reason to stay.
Maybe it was a child's tender appreciation
For the rocking chair and their station
Of only snuggled security, if not elation.
Yes. We bask in the calm of it
Where tiny sparrows on our branches sit.
