Donna's Poems
Ruby
by Donna Flood

You look at the ring on my finger, "Only a stone you say?"
"This rich red depth of love,  I wear fights clouds of gray."

"This stone was the choice of my father and his only weakness."
The love for color, in this stone's beauty He said, "I confess."

"Set on his finger even when he worked the harsh foundry,
Held he,  it there, as he tossed a rope on to a stray."

"For all the wear, the heartache, the joy there was a glint,
Of soft ways,  of pleasant memories; yet  mind as hard as flint."

"Ruby you shine now for me, pray you stay,
As long as time and forever, a new day."
