Kingdom of Love

Praises for the King of Love

The King of Love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never.
I nothing lack if I am His,
And He is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow
My ransomed soul He leadeth,
And where the verdant pastures grow
With food celestial feedeth.

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love
He sought me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home rejoicing brought me.

And so thru all the length of days
Thy goodness faileth never:
Good shepherd, may I sing thy praise
Within Thy house forever.

Henry W. Baker

(My most favourite “Jesus” hymn)

***

I love to hear the story
That angel voices tell
How once the King of Glory
Came down on earth to dwell.

I am but weak and simple,
But this I surely know,
The Lord came down to save me
Because he loved me so.

(Another favourite I learned at Sunday School across
the street from our home, Butterburn Church of Scotland)

***

Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam
To shine for him each day.
In every way try to please him,
At home, at school, at play.

A Sunbeam, a Sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam.
A Sunbeam, a Sunbeam,
I’ll be a Sunbeam for Him.

Jesus wants me to be loving,
And kind to all I see;
Showing how pleasant and happy
His little one can be.

I will ask Jesus to help me,
To keep my heart from sin;
Ever reflecting his goodness,
And always shine for him.

I’ll be a sunbeam for Jesus,
I can, if I but try;
Serving him moment by moment,
Then live with him on high.

He’s got the whole world,
In his hands he’s got the whole world,
In his hands he’s got the whole wide world,
He’s got the whole world in his hands.

***

Jesus loves me,
This I know
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones do Him no wrong,
We are weak, but he is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so.

(Old Granny from Scotland’s childhood favourite)

***

“Give,” said the little stream,
“Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.
Give,” said the little stream
As it hurried down the hill.
“I’m small I know but wherever I go
The fields grow greener still.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give away, oh! give a way.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give, oh! give away.”

“Give,” said the little rain,
“Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.
Give,” said the little rain
As it fell upon the flow’rs.
“I’ll raise their dropping heads again,”
As it fell upon the flow’rs.
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give away, oh! give a way.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give, oh! give away.”

Give, then, as Jesus gives.
Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.
Give, then as Jesus gives;
There is something all can give.
Do as the streams and blossoms do,
For God and others live.
Singing, singing, all the day,
“Give away, oh! give away.”
Singing, singing, all the day,
“Give, oh! give away.”

My Favourite Primary Prayer Songs from Sing With Me

I love my Heavenly Father,
And I will try to be
Revrent when I’m in his house,
Then he’ll be near to me.

***

Today, dear Lord, I’ll try to show how quiet I can be,
To thank thee for the many things that thou hast given me.

***

We bow our heads and close our eyes,
And say a little prayer,
We thank our Father graciously,
For blessing we all share.

***

Our chapel is a sacred place,
We enter quietly.
Dear Father, while we sing and pray,
Our thoughts will be of thee.

***

Thanks to our Father we will bring,
For he gives us everything.

Eyes and ears and hands and feet,
Clothes to wear and food to eat.

Father, mother, baby small,
Heavenly Father gives us all.

Thanks to our Father we will bring,
For he gives us everything.

***

This is God’s house and he is here today,
He hears each song of praise, and listens when we pray.

***

I thank thee, dear Father in heaven above,
For thy goodness and mercy, thy kindness and love.
I thank thee for home, friends and parents so dear,
And for every blessing that I enjoy here.

Help me to be good, kind and gentle today,
And mind what my father and mother shall say;
In the dear name of Jesus, so loving and mild,
I ask thee to bless me and keep me thy child.

***

Reverently, quietly, lovingly we think of thee;
Reverently, quietly, softly sing our melody.
Reverently, quietly, humbly now we pray,
Let thy Holy Spirit dwell in our hearts today.

***

In the morning when I wake
Before I work or play
Always I remember to kneel and softly pray.

***

When I’m home or far away,
Heavenly Father, hear me pray;
Keep me safely in thy sight,
Help me choose and do what’s right.

Thanks for home and family, too,
Many things to love and do.
Thou art very good to me.
Heavenly Father thanks to thee.

***

Thank thee for the world so sweet;
Thank thee for the food we eat;
Thank thee for the birds that sing;
Thank thee, God, for everything.

My Favourite Primary Gospel Songs from Sing With Me

Hello friends, it’s nice to be here with you in Primary.
I’ll help you and you’ll help me,
We’ll be happy as can be.

***

Listen to the still, small voice!
Listen!  Listen!
When you have to make a choice.
He will guide you always.

***

Jesus came to John the Baptist,
In Judea long ago,
And was baptized by immersion
In the River Jordan’s flow.

”To fulfill the law,” said Jesus,
When the Baptist questioned why,
“And to enter with my Father
In his kingdom up on high.”

Now we know that we must also
Witness faith in Jesus’ word,
Be baptized to show obedience,
As was Jesus  Christ our Lord.

***

But the Lord is mindful of his own, he remembers his children.

***

For health and strength and daily food we praise thy name, O Lord.

***

Help me, dear Father, to freely forgive,
All who may seem unkind to me;
Help me each day, Father, to live
Nearer and nearer to thee.

***

How lovely are the messengers that preach us the gospel of peace,
How lovely are the messengers that preach us the gospel of peace,
That preach us the gospel of peace.

***

Our prophet has some words for you,
And these are the words:
Be true, be true,
At work or at play,
In darkness or light,
Be true, be true,
And stand for the right.

***

When my mother calls me,
Quickly I’ll obey,
For Mother knows just what is best,
Each and every day.

When my father calls me,
Quickly I’ll obey,
For Father knows just what is best,
Each and every day.

Heavenly Father loves me,
Blesses me each day,
I’ll always try to think of him,
And his will obey.

***

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

***

For the wonder of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

***

I know my Father lives
And loves me too;
The Spirit whispers this to me
And tells me it is true,
And tells me it is true.

He sent me here to earth
By faith to live his plan;
This Spirit whispers this to me
And tells me that I can,
And tells me that I can.

***

The Lord gave me a temple to live within on earth.
Once in Heaven I was spirit, but I left my home at birth.
I’ll make my temple brighter;
I’ll keep my spirit free.
My body is the temple my Father gave to me.

***

I want to be kind to every one,
For that is right you see.
So I say to myself:
”Remember this,
Kindness begins with me.”

***

Jesus said love every one,
Treat them kindly too,
When your heart is filled with love
Others will love you.

***

The golden plates lay hidden
Deep in the mountain side,
Until God found one faithful,
In whom he could confide.

A record made by Nephi,
A godly man of old,
Now, in the Book of Mormon,
The story is retold.

Hello!  Hello!  Hello!  Hello!
We welcome you to day.
Hello!  Hello!  Hello!  Hello!
We’re glad you came our way,
To share with us our Primary day
And be our friend in a very special way.
Hello!  Hello!  Hello! Hello!
We welcome you today.

I always have a happy feeling
When I go to church.
The organ plays so soft and sweet,
I tiptoe softly to my seat;
My teachers and my friends I greet
When I go to church.

I like to raise my voice in singing
When I go to church.
I fold my arms and bow my head,
Then listen while the prayer is said;
I do not talk but think instead
When I go to church.

I learn about my Heavenly Father
When I go to church.
I thank him for each flow’r and tree,
For home and friends and family,
For all the lovely things I see
When I go to church.

***

Busy as a man can be
He’s our bishop;
He finds time to talk to me,
He’s our bishop;
Always kindly words he’ll say
To the children every day;
Let us help him every way,
He’s our bishop.

***

Father, I will reverent be
And in thy house walk quietly;
Fold my arms and bow my head
And close my eyes when prayers are said;
Listen to the words I hear,
For in thy house I feel thee near.
May my thoughts more perfect be,
That I may speak more reverently.
Father, I will reverent be
And in thy house walk quietly.

***

Whenever I hear the song of a bird
Or look at the blue, blue sky,
Whenever I feel the rain on my face
Or the wind as it rushes by,
Whenever I touch a velvet rose,
Or walk by our lilac tree,
I’m glad that I live in this beautiful world,
Heavenly Father created for me.

He gave me my eyes that I might see
The color of butterfly wings.
He gave me my ears that I might hear
The magical sound of things.
He gave me my life,
My mind, my heart.
I thank him reverently
For all his creations of which I’m a part.
Yes, I know Heavenly Father loves me.

***

I have two little hands folded snugly and tight,
They are tiny and weak yet they know what is right.
During all the long hours till daylight is through,
There is plenty indeed for my two hands to do.

Kind Father, I thank thee for two little hands,
And ask thee to bless them till each understands
That children can only be happy all day,
When two little hands have learned how to obey.

***

My light is but a little one,
My light of faith and prayer;
But lo! it glows like God’s great sun,
For it was lighted there.
Shine on, shine on, shine on bright and clear;
Shine on, shine on, the day is here.

I may not hide my little light,
The Lord has told me so;
Tis given me to keep in sight,
That all may see it glow.
Shine on, shine on, shine on bright and clear;
Shine on, shine on, the day is here.

***

The chapel doors seem to say to me,
“Sh! be still.”
For this is a reverent place to be
“Sh! be still.”
There are many things we can do outside:
We laugh and play and we romp and slide.
But when we come through the chapel doors,
“Sh! be still.”

The organ music is soft and clear,
“Sh! be still.”
And we feel the goodness of Jesus near
When we’re still.

***

We gather here in a reverent way
To learn of Jesus, to sing and pray,
So when we come through the chapel doors,
“Sh! be still.”

***

I think the world is glorious and lovely as can be.
The birds and bees and blossoms bring sweet messages to me.
I sing, and sing, and sing, and sing,   A song of joy and love.
I sing, and sing, and sing, and sing,   My thanks to God above.

I think the world is glorious and lovely as can be,
For I have teachers kind and true, and parents who love me,
I sing, and sing, and sing, and sing,   A song of joy and love.
I sing, and sing, and sing, and sing,   My thanks to God above.

***

It shouldn’t be hard to sit very still,
And think about Jesus, his cross on the hill;
And all that he suffered and did for me;
It shouldn’t be hard to sit quietly.
It shouldn’t be hard, even though I am small,
To think always of Jesus, not hard at all.

When I think of the miles he walked in the dust,
And the children he helped to love and to trust:
It shouldn’t be hard to sit tall in my seat,
To listen politely and quiet my feet.
It shouldn’t be hard to sit quietly.
It shouldn’t be hard, even though I am small,
To think always of Jesus, not hard at all.

***

Jesus once was a little child
A little child like me,
And he was pure and meek and mild
As a little child should be.
So little children, let’s you and I,
Try to be like him,
Try, Try, Try.

He played as little children play
The pleasant games of youth;
But he never got vexed if the game went wrong
And he always spoke the truth.
So little children, let’s you and I,
Try to be like him,
Try, Try, Try.

Book of Mormon stories that my teacher tells to me
Are about the Lamanites in ancient history.
Long ago their fathers came from far across the sea.
Given this land if they lived righteously.

Lamanites met others who were seeking liberty
And the land soon welcomed all who wanted to be free.
Book of Mormon stories say that we must brothers be.
Given this land if we live righteously.

***

I think when I read that sweet story of old,
When Jesus was here among men,
How he called little children like lambs to his fold,
I should like to have been with him then.

I wish that his hands had been placed on my head,
That his arms had been thrown around me,
That I might have seen his kind look when he said,
“Let the little ones come unto me.”

Yet still to his footstool in prayer I may go,
And ask for a share in his love;
And if I thus earnestly seek him below,
I shall see him and hear him above.

***

Dare to do right!  Dare to be true!
You have a work that no other can do;
Do it so bravely so kindly, so well,
Angels will hasten the story to tell.
Dare, dare, dare to do right!
Dare, dare, dare to be true!
Dare to be true!  Dare to be true!

Dare to do right!  Dare to be true!
Other men’s failures can never save you:
Stand by your conscience, your honor your faith,
Stand like a hero and battle till death.
Dare, dare, dare to do right!
Dare, dare, dare to be true!
Dare to be true!  Dare to be true!

Called to serve him, Heavenly King of glory,
Chosen e’er to witness for his name;
Far and wide we tell a Father’s story,
Far and wide his love proclaim.
Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name,
Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name;
Forward, pressing forward, as a triumph song we sing,
Joy our strength shall be, press forward ever,
Called to serve our king.

Called to know the richness of his blessing,
Sons of God and children of a King;
Glad of heart, his holy name confessing,
Homage unto him we bring.
Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name,
Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name;
Forward, pressing forward, as a triumph song we sing,
Joy our strength shall be, press forward ever,
Called to serve our king.

Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear;
Things I would ask him to tell me
If he were here;
Scenes by the wayside,
Tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus,
Tell them to me.

First let me hear how the children
Stood round his knee;
And I shall fancy his blessing
Resting on me;
Words full of kindness,
Deeds full of grace,
All in the lovelight
Of Jesus’ face.

Into the city I’d follow the children’s band,
Waving a branch of the palm tree
High in my hand;
One of his heralds,
Yes, I would sing
Loudest hosannas!
Jesus is King!

Tell me, in accents of wonder,
How rolled the sea,
Tossing the boat in a tempest
On Galilee!
And how the Master,
Ready and kind,
Chided the billows,
And hushed the wind.

My Favourite Primary Home and Family Songs from Sing With Me

When we’re helping we’re happy
And we sing as we go,
For we like to help Mother
For we all love her so.

When we’re helping we’re happy
And we sing as we go,
For we like to help Daddy
For we all love him so.

***

Mother, dear, I love you so,
Your happy smiling face
Is such a joy to look at,
It makes home a lovely place.

Mother, dear, I love you so,
Your lovely shining eyes
Are just like stars that twinkle
Way up in the bright blue skies.

Mother, dear, I love you so,
I will try all day through
To please our Heavenly Father
I’m so glad he gave me you.

***

I am glad for many things,
Many things,  Many things.
I am glad for many things
That are mine today.

Thank you, thank you, my heart sings,
My heart sings, My heart sings.
Thank you for the many things
That are mine today.

***

Singing a song is fun to do,
Fun to do, To do, To do!
Singing a song is fun to do,
To do, To do, To do!

(A little miming game, we would sing words to fit the actions)

***

If you chance to meet a frown,
Do not let it stay.
Quickly turn it upside down,
And smile that frown away.

No one likes a frowning face,
Change it for a smile,
Make the world a better place
By smiling all the while.

***

I often go walking in meadows of clover,
And I gather armfuls of blossoms of blue.
I gather the blossoms the whole meadow over,
Dear Mother, all flowers remind me of you.

Oh Mother, I give you my love with each flower
To give forth sweet fragrance a whole lifetime through
For if I love blossoms and meadows and walking,
I learn how to love them, dear Mother, from you.

***

Mother, I love you, Mother, I do.
Father in Heaven has sent me to you.
When I am near you, I love to hear you
Singing so softly that you love me too.

Daddy and Mother, sister and brother,
I want to show you that I love you all.
When I am staying too long at playing,
I will remember to come when you call.

Mother, I love you, Mother, I do.
I want to help you because I love you.
I want to mind you, I want to find you
Happy and smiling because I love you.

***

It’s always fun when Granma comes,
When Granma comes we’re gay.
She always says the kindest things,
And in the kindest way.
She has a wrinky twinkly smile,
She’s jolly all the day.
It’s always fun for everyone one
When Granma comes!

(Nathan said he liked my lap better than
his mother’s because mine was soft and squishy.)

Do as I’m doing,  Follow follow me!
Doing as I’m doing,  Follow, follow me!
If I do it fast or slow,  If I do it high or low!
Do as I’m doing,  Follow, follow me!
Follow, follow me!

(Another singing action song we would make fit together)

My Favourite Primary LDS Heritage Songs from Sing With Me

Pioneer children sang as they walked and walked and walked and walked.
Pioneer children sang as they walked and walked and walked and walked.
They washed at streams and worked and played.
Sundays they camped and read and prayed.
Week after week they sang as they walked and walked and walked and walked.

***

Whenever I think about pioneers,
I think of brave women and men.
I like to remember that children came too.
I would like to have been a child then.

Yes, I’d like to have played all the games that they played
And joined in their fun.
And I’d like to have slept under bright starry skies
When each day’s measured journey was done.

I would like to have hunted for rabbits and deer,
Herded cattle and known all the joys
Of riding along in the wind and the sun,
As did most of the pioneer boys.

It would seem like a picnic to join with the girls
In each family chore.
And I think that I’d like a ceiling of sky,
And the green prairie grass for a floor.

I would like to have sung with the pioneers
When their voices rang out loud and strong,
“Hosanna!  Hosanna!  We’ve found our new home!”
Joy and thankfulness filled their song.

***

Here comes the oxcart,
Oh, how slow!
It’s pulled by an ox of course you know.
The wooden wheels creak as they roll along,
Creak, creak, creak, creak is their song.

My Favourite Songs for Special Days from Sing With Me

Stars were gleaming,
Shepherds dreaming,
Winter night was dark and chill;
Angel’s story
Rang with glory,
Shepherds heart it on the hill.
Ah, that singing,
Hear it ringing,
Earthward winging,
Christmas bring!
Hearken we can hear it still!

See the clearness
And the nearness
Of the blessed Christmas star,
Leading, guiding,
Wise Men riding
Through the desert dark and far.
Ah, that singing,
Hear it ringing,
Earthward winging,
Christmas bring!
Hearken we can hear it still!

Lovely showing,
Singing, growing,
Onward going,
Gleaming, glowing,
Leading still our Christmas Star!
Ah, that singing,
Hear it ringing,
Earthward winging,
Christmas bring!
Hearken we can hear it still!

***

We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring for you and your kin.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

Now bring us some figgy pudding,
Now bring us some figgy pudding,
Now bring us some figgy pudding,
Now bring some to us here.
We won’t go until we get it.
We won’t go until we get it,
We won’t go until we get it,
So bring some right here.
We all like our figgy pudding,
We all like our figgy pudding,
So bring us some figgy pudding,
With all its good cheer.

“Feliz Cumpleanos,” That’s how they say it in Spain.
“Glucklicher Geburstag,” In German it means the same.
“Gratulerer med Dagen,” Norwegians say it too.
But anyway you say it,
It means happy birthday to you!

***

This month is such a special one,
It’s birthday time for you.
We’d really like to celebrate
Your happy day with you.
Zip-a-dee-ay, and heigh-de-ho,
Here’s something we can do,
We’ll sing a song that we all know,
“Happy birthday to you.”

***

Happy, happy birthday, children, dear,
Happy days will come to you all year.
If I had one wish then it would be
A happy, happy birthday to you from me!

My Favourite Songs of the Seasons from Sing With Me

Rain is falling all around;
On the house-tops,
On the ground.
Raindrops fall upon my nose;
On my head, and hands, and toes.

(We would sing lots of songs about rain when we lived in Paradise, Ca.)

***

A tree grows straight and tall,
It lifts its branches high!
A tree bends with the wind,
And tries to touch the sky,
And tries to touch the sky!

***

In the leafy tree tops the birds sing, “Good morning.”
They’re first to see the sun,
They must tell every one,
In the leafy tree-tops, the birds sing, “Good morning.”

In my pretty garden the flowers are nodding,
“How do you do?” they say.
“How do you do today?”
In my pretty garden the flowers are nodding.

I looked out he window and what did I see?
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree!
Spring had brought me such a nice surprise –
Blossoms popping right before my eyes.
I could take an armful and make a treat,
A popcorn ball that would smell so sweet.
It wasn’t really so, But it seemed to be
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree.

It’s autumn time.
It’s autumn time,
The leaves are falling down.
It’s autumn time.
It’s autumn time,
Petty color can be found.
It’s autumn time.
It’s autumn time,
There’s yellow, red and brown.
It’s autumn time.
It’s autumn time,
It’s all around the town.

Merry, merry children, sweetly sing
Of the happy days that the seasons bring;
Each in its robes doth gaily appear,
The hearts of the children to comfort and cheer.
Merry, merry children sweetly sing
Of the happy days that the seasons bring;
Merry, merry children sweetly sing,
Of the happy days that the seasons bring.

Merry children gently pray
That the happy times which are passing away
Long in your lives may linger and shine
As gems of bright lustre and radiance divine.
Merry, merry children sweetly sing
Of the happy days that the seasons bring;
Merry, merry children sweetly sing,
Of the happy days that the seasons bring.

Merry, merry children, soon the Spring,
With her pretty buds and her birds that sing,
Clad now in bloom must change her array
And then she will grow into bright Summer day.
Merry, merry children sweetly sing
Of the happy days that the seasons bring;
Merry, merry children sweetly sing,
Of the happy days that the seasons bring.

Merry, merry children, Summer’s heat
Follows  ever after the Spring so sweet;
Autumn with sheaves of bright, yellow grain
Doth herald the coming of winter again.
Merry, merry children sweetly sing
Of the happy days that the seasons bring;
Merry, merry children sweetly sing,
Of the happy days that the seasons bring.

Little purple pansies touched with yellow gold,
Growing in one corner of the garden old;
We are very tiny, but must try, try, try,
Just one spot to gladden, you and I.

When the skies are dreary, dreary, dark and cold,
And the rain falls softly on the garden old,
Other flowers grow weary,
We must try, try, try,
Just one spot to gladden,
You and I.

In whatever corner we may chance to grow,
Whether cold or warm the wind may ever blow,
Dark the day or sunny,
We must try, try, try,
Just one spot to gladden,
You and I.

Daddy’s Favourite Primary Songs from Sing With Me

My daddy is my favourite pal,
And I help him every day.
It’s plain to see
I want to be
Like him in every way.
He teaches me that honesty
Is best in all I do.
I’m very glad that he’s my dad,
And I know he loves me, too.

***

I’m so glad when Daddy comes home,
Glad as I can be;
Clap my hands and shout for joy,
Then climb upon his knee;
Put my arms around his neck,
Hug him tight like this;
Pat his cheeks, then give him What?
A great big kiss!

***

I love Mother,
She loves me.
We love Daddy, Yes sirree;
He loves us and so you see,
We are a happy family.

I love sister,
She loves me.
We love brother, Yes siree;
He loves us and so you see,
We are a happy family.

Saturday is a special day,
It’s the day we get ready for Sunday.
We clean the house and we shop at the store,
So we won’t have to work until Monday;
We brush our clothes and we shine our shoes,
And we call it our “get-the-work-done” day!
Then we trim our nails and we shampoo our hair,
So we can be ready for Sunday.

When pioneers moved to the west
With courage strong they met the test,
They pushed their handcarts all day long,
And as they pushed they sang this song,
“For some must push and some must pull,
As we go marching up the hill;
So merrily on the way we go
Until we reach the Valley O!”

***

When the family gets together,
After evening work is done,
Then we learn to know each other,
Popping corn and having fun.
Then our father tells a story,
Mother leads us in a song,
And it seems that nothing in this world
Could possibly go wrong.

Our Nan’s Favourite Primary Songs

Heavenly Father,
Are you really there?
And do you hear and answer
Every child’s prayer?
Some say that heaven is far away,
But I feel it close around me as I pray.

***

Pray, he is there;
Speak, he is listening.
You are his child;
His love now surrounds you.
He hears your prayer, He loves the children.
Of such is the kingdom, the kingdom of heaven.

Heavenly Father,
I remember now
Something that Jesus
Told disciples long ago;
”Suffer the children to come to me.”
Father in prayer I’m coming now to thee.

***

Teach me to walk in the light of his love,
Teach me to pray to my Father above,
Teach me to know of the things that are right,
Teach me, teach me to walk in the light.

Come little child, and together we’ll learn
Of his commandments, that we may return
Home to his presence, to live in his sight –
Always, always to walk in the light.

Father in heaven, we thank thee this day
For loving guidance to show us the way.
Grateful, we praise thee with songs of delight!
Gladly, gladly we’ll walk in the light!

Nathan’s Favourite Primary Songs

I am a child of God
And he has sent me here
Has given me an earthly home
With parents kind and dear.
Lead me, Guide me, Walk beside me.
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with him some day.

I am a child of God,
And so my needs are great;
Help me to understand his words
Before it grows too late.
Lead me, Guide me, Walk beside me.
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with him some day.

I am a child of God,
Rich blessings are in store;
If I but learn to do his will,
I’ll live with him once more.
Lead me, Guide me, Walk beside me.
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with him some day.

I am a child of God,
His promises are sure;
Celestial glory shall be mine
If I can but endure.
Lead me, Guide me, Walk beside me.
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with him some day.

The Lord commanded Nephi to go and get the plates
From the wicked Laban inside the city gates.
Laman and Lemuel were both afraid to try,
Nephi was courageous,  This was his reply:
I will go; I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way;  He wants me to obey.
I will go;  I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way;  he wants me to obey.

The Lord commanded Nephi to go and build a boat.
Nephi’s older brothers believed it would not float.
Laughing and mocking, they said he should not try;
Nephi was courageous, this was his reply:
I will go; I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way;  He wants me to obey.
I will go;  I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way;  he wants me to obey.

The Lord gives us commandments and asks us to obey.
Sometimes I am tempted to choose another way.
When I’m discouraged and think I cannot try,
I will be courageous, and I will reply:
I will go; I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way;  He wants me to obey.
I will go;  I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way;  he wants me to obey.

Family history I am doing it,
My family history.
And the love I feel when I’m doing it
Is very sweet to me.
I learn stories of my progenitors;
I write their history.
I keep records of my loved ones
On my own family tree.
Family living now and the ones who’ve died
Can all be sealed to me,
And some day I’ll meet every one of them
I’m sure as I can be.
Oh what joy we’ll have when they say to me,
“We’re all a family.
I am yours and you are mine now,
Through all eternity.”

Adam was a prophet, first one that we know,
In a place called Eden, he helped things to grow.
Adam served the Lord by following his ways.
We are his descendants in the latter days.
Chorus: Follow the prophet, Follow the prophet,
Follow the prophet; Don’t go astray.
Follow the prophet, Follow the prophet, Follow the prophet; He knows the way.
Enoch was a prophet; he taught what was good.
People in his city did just what they should.
When they were so righteous that there was no sin,
Heavenly Father took them up to live with him.
Noah was a prophet called to preach the word,
Tried to cry repentance, but nobody heard.
They were busy sinning – Noah preached in vain.
They wished they had listened when they saw the rain.
Abraham the prophet prayed to have a son,
So the Lord sent Isaac as the chosen one.
Isaac begat Jacob, known as Israel;
Jacob’s sons were twelve tribes, so the Bible tells.
Moses was a prophet sent to Israel.
He would lead them to the promised land to dwell.
They were slow to follow, or so it appears.
They were in the wilderness for forty years.
Samuel was a prophet chosen as a boy.
Hannah promised God her son would serve with joy.
In the tabernacle, Samuel heard his name;
He was called by God and answered, “Here I am.”
Jonah was a prophet, tried to run away.
But he later learned to listen and obey.
When we really try, the Lord won’t let us fail:
That’s what Jonah learned deep down inside the whale.

(Nathan and his little friends sing this chorus as “Swallow the Prophet.”)

Daniel was a prophet. He refused to sin;
So the king threw Daniel in the lion’s den.
Angels calmed the lions, and the king soon saw
Daniel’s power was great, for he obeyed God’s law.
Now we have a world where people are confused.
If you don’t believe it, go and watch the news.
We can get directions all along the way,
If we heed the prophets – follow what they say.
Faith is knowing the sun will rise, lighting each new day.
Faith is knowing the Lord will hear my prayers each time I pray.

***

Faith is like a little seed:
If planted, it will grow.
Faith is a swelling within my heart,
When I do right, I know.

Faith is knowing I lived with God before my mortal birth.
Faith is knowing I can return when my life ends on earth.
Faith is trust in God above;
In Christ, who showed the way.
Faith is strengthened; I feel it grow
Whenever I obey.

I hope they call me on a mission
When I have grown a foot or two.
I hope by then I will be ready
To teach and preach and work as missionaries do.

I hope that I can share the gospel
With those who want to know the truth.
I want to be a missionary
And serve and help the Lord while I am in my youth.

Some New Favourites from The Children’s Songbook

I wonder when he comes again,
Will herald angels sing?
Will earth be white with drifted snow,
Or will the world know spring?
I wonder if one star will shine
Far brighter than the rest;
Will daylight stay the whole night through?
Will songbirds leave their nests?
I’m sure he’ll call his little ones
To gather round his knee,
Because he said in days gone by,
“Suffer them to come to me.”
I wonder, when he comes again,
Will I be ready there
To look upon his loving face
And join with him in prayer?
Each day I’ll try to do his will
And let my light so shine
That others seeing me may seek
For greater light divine.
Then, when that blessed day is here,
He’ll love me and he’ll say,
“You’ve served well, my little child’
Come unto my arms to stay.”

***

As I have loved you,
Love one another.
This new commandment:
Love one another.
By this shall men know
Ye are my disciples,
If ye have love
One to another.

***

Where love is, there God is also.
Where love is, we want to be.
Guide us, his truth to follow;
Help us obey him faithfully.

Where love is, there God is also,
We think of him reverently.
Teach us to pray, to talk with him above,
And know that he will guide us with his love.

The comfort of loving arms around us,
A song that makes us want to sing.
The happiness we feel when love has found us,
Tis love we get when love we bring.

***

I have a family here on earth.
They are so good to me.
I want to share my life with them through all eternity.
Families can be together forever
Through Heavenly Father’s plan.
I always want to be with my own family,
And the Lord has shown me how I can.
The Lord has shown me how I can.

While I am in my early years,
I’ll prepare most carefully,
So I can marry in God’s temple for eternity.
Families can be together forever
Through Heavenly Father’s plan.
I always want to be with my own family,
And the Lord has shown me how I can.
The Lord has shown me how I can.

I’m trying to be like Jesus;
I’m following in his ways.
I’m trying to love as he did,
In all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice,
But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers,
“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”

I’m trying to love my neightbor;
I’m learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again.
I try to remember the lessons he taught,
Then the Holy Spirit enters into my thoughts, saying:
“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things I’m taught.”

And a Final Favourite from Mormon Youth Chorus and Symphony

Songs for Young People

My mother sang a song to me
Each night before I went to bed,
And now that I am getting older,
I treasure every word she said.

May you be blessed with love and health,
May you be blessed with friends and wealth,
But most of all, may you be blessed
With time
To enjoy them.

May angels guide you night and day,
So that you’ll never go astray,
And may you stay
The way you are today,
Forever.

Because the smile upon your face
Has made this world a better place,
I put my heart into this prayer:
May God be with you
Everywhere.

May you be blessed with love and health,
May you be blessed with friends and wealth,
But most of all may you be blessed
With time
To enjoy them.
