Scottish Language goes all 'Digital Native'
Chapter 8 - Yikes!


"Stack" -- Stac or stakk a Gaelic word employed especially in high-tech geographical contexts like "stac-mara"; raised ground, a stone foundation for peat or corn, Scots Online says also staak, staakin, staakit, stalkin, stauk, staukin$ as in a chimney stack.

"Deid" -- DE-IDentification Toolbox Java program data sharing solution enabling users to remove information no longer needed; Collins Dictionary says the Scots word for dead as in unresponsive or unaware, insensible, devoid of physical sensation.

"Bumph"-- Facebook and other sites algorithm for bring up my post; Electric Scotland identifies it as in bump, butt, jolt a push as in with elbow, dunt, durkie.

"Haar" -- Digital signal processing and computer vision, specifically related to mathematical algorithms; term for cold mist with Wikipedia describing a sea fret or cold sea fog so dense it has been known to roll into the Firth of Forth to partially shroud the Forth Bridge.

"Yikes" -- Described in cyberland as - would you believe - a “traditional” phrase, where a web designer experiences or witnesses a major tech failing, increasingly used by AI analysis consultants; Tumblr describes as an exclamation of surprise, shock or alarm related to "yoicks" of Scots, Swedish and ancient Greek origins.

"Dawdle" -- Common thread leveraging AI for enhanced experiences across education and business - Dawdle Labs, Dawdle.live and Dawdle App; A Way with Words identifies term as to loiter, waste time, linger and Dictionaries of the Scots Language to toddle, dawdle or saunter.
