online advertising using a grid of thumbnails and captions to drive
traffic to other sites and webpages ; the Edinburgh Slang and Dialect
Guide says that contrary to popular belied it means to accompany as in "gonnae
chum me tae the pictures"
"Nook" or Neuk -- Refers to several distinct technologies, most
commonly US Barnes & Noble range of e-readers/tablets ie NOOK Simple
Touch, Glow Light, also portable work pods, fintech platforms, tech
recruitment each emphasising a niche user experience; The Chaotic Scot
cites a "wee nook or corner" as in the East Neuk of Fife.
"Jo" -- Multiple tech and engineering entities globally as in Jo
Tech, Jo-TECH and YouTube's Jo the Techie; refers to "sweetie, darling,
dear one" used in Burns poems.
"Booting" or bootstrapping -- Process of starting a computer and
loading its operating system; Green's Dictionary of Slang says as in "a
kicking" as in I was risking a booting to end all bootings.
"Tackety" -- Used in video games for a faction with tough vibes;
Stooryduster cites hobnailed boots and Collins Dictionary dialect for
studded with large-headed nails for increased durability.
"Gub" -- Acronym Finder refers to GUB as in Grand Unified Builder
in computer science, also Generic Universal Boardgame software, more
casually as tech not working, exhausted.
Finally, "Tarra" -- Gaelic word for goodbye "Tioradh" pronounced
cheery becoming globally-accepted cheerio, Digital Native everyday
parlance Ta-Ra and Bye-Bye via a plethora of internet/social media
channels impossible to ignore in today's helter-skelter, hurly-burly
digital world.
