I Ken the Teen Bit Nae The Wirds

Lyrics composed by John Henderson on 13th November, 2007
to Sue Keller's interpretation of JL Cook's 1914 version
of 'Blame It On The Blues'.

Introduction ......

I wint tae rhyme, noo as I hear Sue play,
This teen sae rare, in sich a speeshal way.
Her fingers clairly hinting as they tap the keys
O' binders yit untelt wi'in thase melodies.
Whit dae thase notes, an thur rag-rhythms tell
Thit mak ma myn, an aa its vizzies swell?
Ay, whit is it thit's strickin chords in memory?
The pictur I yit canna see.

Pianny pleese, frae affa clivver hans,
Kythe noo yer mints, as this makar bleck demans
Mair clairity o' rizzens, ackirs in fu view
Tae awaaken aa ma noshuns idder gled or blue.
Whit dae aa yon tinkles, an yon rag-soonds bring
Thit mak ma harns, an ma emoshuns swing?
Ay, whit is it poos hairt-tows hairmoniously?
Its sneck-drawin I canna see.

VERY LENGTHY Piano Interlude .....

I'd wissed tae rhyme, back whan I'd hard Sue play,
Thon teen sae rare, in sich a speeshal way.
Her fingers hid weel hinted as they'd tapped the keys
O' binders yit untelt wi'in thase melodies.
Whit syne did aa, thase notes an rag-rhythms tell
Thit mak'd ma myn, an aa its vizzies swell?

Brief Interlude ....

Come bit narer, muckle narer,
Naithin could be vrutten onywye clairer
Oan the sheet-meesic thit Sue his praisented.
It hauds thit nae sang-wirds shid ivver be invented
Tae ging wi whit is jist her interpretaishun
Wi'oot a tentily screevit oraishun
Frae-oot ony maroonjus creaishun.
Thit's delled-up bi sich as me.
Ay come narer, muckle narer,
Naithin could be vrutten onywye clairer
Oan the sheet-meesic thit Sue his praisented.
It hauds thit nae sang-wirds shid ivver be invented
Tae ging wi whit is jist her interpretaishun
Wi'oot a tentily screevit oraishun
Frae-oot ony maroonjus creaishun.
Thit's delled-up bi sich as me.

Brief Interlude

Pianny kept, frae baith ma speerin lugs
Thon teens' labach, whilk this loon's hairt-tow tugs.
Nae rhyme an na rizzen, or ackirs in fu view
Tae awaaken aa ma noshuns idder gled or blue.

Whit dae yon tinkles, an yon rag-soonds bring
Thit mak ma harns, an ma emoshuns swing?
Whit is it poos ma hairt-tows hairmoniously?
It is fair a myst'ry ....
Bidin' maist shairly
Ivver hodden weel frae me!
