Donna's Poems
Ladies of the Land
by Donna Flood

We,  who are ladies of the Land,
Fought for equality, like a man.

Now we are there,  all right.
Was it worth the fight?

If in courts we stand toe to toe with a man,
Even for the biggies' like someone Simpson.

Sadly, divorce we can't keep off the registry,
Don't know how to apply Aristotle's civility.

We can explain Einstein's theory on matter,
But have trouble with pancake batter.

Designer clothes we can now afford,
But in Athena's garment we look poured.

We saw to the richness of history's fates,
Can't get the system of kitchen's plates.

Instead we watch Martha trying to teach,
Softly so as not to rile,  she doesn't preach.

Now,  I'm not looking to going back,
Just forward  and cards don't stack.

What with all this power grandiose,
Solve children's hearts yearning to be close?

With this new education of character,
See to aged problems treated fair?

Who do we blame now we are in the saddle,
For these of society's floundering battle?

Will the world ever forget the decisions,
There at waco, leaving us with derision's?

Here is something to contemplate,
If a man's life wasn't so simple and great,

Why didn't he rally to take on women's fight,
For her  place and,  her equal right?

Could it be he is really smarter than we,
Knew without thinking he couldn't be?

Or were we in our naive demeanor,
Tricked by someone who was meaner,

To force us to take on still yet a double trial,
Tore us away from reward's of love's sweet tradition's and guile.

So that we like the Amazon cut ourselves,
For a moment of glory on power's shelf.
