Pronunciation Guide

a   as in father

i    as in me
o   as in go
u    as in flu
s    as in see
s^   as in show
z   as in zebra
z^  as in azure
S   as the i in tip
d~ as the th in the
x   as in the German “Ach”
c^   as the ch in church

Nasal sounds are indicated by diacritic (e) and are pronounced as follows:

a (e) as in onh
e (e) as in anh
i (e) eenh
o (e)as in ohnh
u (e) as in ahnh

Consonants not used in the Ponca Language are:
F, L, Q, R, and V

Other special symbols or letters used are:

P sound between P&B
d~ sound between d&t
