Donna's Poems
Politically Correct
by Donna Flood

As moons change to a year and a decade
Many changes with the folks been made.
Way back then it was thing about clothing,
And they were really not that all knowing.
They worked their way through that,
Fabric, coats, ruffles and a tall hat.

We have to admire our  people of old,
Took it all in stride, fit right into the mold.
Especially on this level I'm troubled,
This business of using the language double.

First we were Indians
That's okay my friends.
Next we're American Indians
All right. That is better than "skins."

Later on they wanted us to be,
Native Americans, and it is hard for me.
I know I had a horse named "Socks",
Sure as anything and the clocks

He won't answer to "Anklets" at all,
No matter how refined and uppity his stall.
Now I'm sure he's not aware of his tribe,
Excuse me! That isn't correct to subscribe.

Well anyway, folks
And these are no jokes,
Come on down to our Pow Wow this fall,
Oh dear! "Gathering?" Oh well just come y'all.
