You may find it interesting that when the
Queen commissioned the London Highland Society to search out the "Tartans
of Scotland" and report back to her in the year 1745. The oldest example
of Tartan they returned with was The MacIntyre & Glenorchy, said by them
in their official report to be the oldest sample extent in the Highlands.
In fact it was said to be so old that no one remembered whether it started
as a District Tartan or as a MacIntyre Tartan! Hence its official
designation as MacIntyre & Glenorchy!
